There was a big pile of bricks on the top of a tall building and a man had to bring them d

own to the ground. He had a long rope which went over a pulley(滑轮) at the roof of the building. The other end was fastened to a big box.

First he pulled the box up to the top of the building, and fastened the end of the rope so that the box could not come down. Then he climbed up the ladder and filled the box with bricks. Next he climbed down the ladder and untied the rope. Unfortunately the box of bricks was heavier than the man, and as a result he was pulled up by the: rope. Half-way up, the box of bricks hit him as it was coming down.

When he reached the top, his head hit the pulley. The box of bricks hit the ground and broke. As a result the bricks fell out. The box was then lighter than the man and consequently he began to come down and the box began to go up.

Half-way up, the box hit the man. The man still held on to the rope and the box therefore Continued to go up. The man then reached the ground. Then he let go the rope to rub his head. The box, of course, then fell down and hit the man on the head again. As a result, an ambulance came and took him to hospital

It was a very happy family. The life was fairly well-off. Father, Leopold, was a music mas

A team of Americans is planning the largest clean-up effort ever on Mountain Everest. They will make the risky trip up the mountain next month.

The team of eight Americans will be guided by more than twenty Sherpas of Nepal (尼泊尔夏尔巴人).Their goal is to remove all the trash they see. They will spend two months cleaning up the mountain by gathering oxygen bottles, fuel containers, batteries, drink cans, human waste and other kinds of trash. They are expected to remove at least three tons of trash in large bags.

Team leader Robert Hoffman is making his fourth trip up the mountain. He says he hopes to bring Everest to the condition it was in before the first successful climb fifty years ago. He says he hopes the effort will influence other people to clean up the environment closer home.

Human waste on Everest is a major concern. So the clean-up team will take along newly development equipment to collect and treat human waste. Some years ago the captain of a ship was very interested in medicine. He always took medic

ine books to sea and liked to talk about different diseases.

One day a lazy sailor on his ship pretended to be ill. He lay on his bunk(铺) and groaned as if he were very sick. The captain came to see him and was very pleased to have a patient to look after.
