The Solo Trek had a 120 horsepower engine with twin fans. Only one person flies. As you fly above the roofs, you lean a little forward. You can see everything under you. You are flying like Superman.
Michael Moshier looked at the jet belt and the rocket belt that was developed 20, 30 years ago. Nothing ever came from them. People still can't fly.
Inventors have tried to make it easy for people to fly. Paul Moiler has been working on his flying car for 30 years. He now says it is ready for tests. It would take off and land vertically, go 600 miles an hour, and deliver 20 miles to the gallon. A computer would do the actual flying. He says it could be sold next year for about a million dollars.
NASA is working with Moshier to help develop his flying machine. The first users are likely to be military.
It's been 50-years since Robert Fulton invented his airphibian, a flying car. It flew, and is now in the Smithsonian Museum.
Getting dreams to fly is never easy.

Flying foxes have babies once a year, giving birth to only one at a time. At first the mother has to carry the baby on her breast wherever she goes. Later she leaves it hanging up, and brings back food for it to eat. Sometimes a baby falls down to the ground and squeaks(尖叫) for help. Then the older ones swoop (俯冲) down and try to pick it up. If they fail to do so, it will die, Often hundreds of dead baby bats can be found lying on the ground at the foot of a tree.

Bessie Coleman
Bessie was born in Atlanta, Texas in 1893. Her father was an Indian and her mother an African American. Her father left the family when she was seven. At such a young age, Bessie picked cotton. She also took on extra washing and ironing to help her mother meet family expenses.
After finishing high school, Bessie went to Chicago to stay with a younger brother. She became interested in aviation (飞行) shortly after World War I. But because of her sex and color she could not enroll (注册入学) in an aviation school in the US. Later, a newspaper editor told her that the only path left open to her would be an viation school in Europe. She then made two trips to Europe. She studied under top German and French pilots, and returned to Chicago with an international pilot's license. Bessie became the only black woman pilot in the world.
Her work as a pilot took her into a field untouched by women in her day. This field was exhibition flying. In 1922, Bessie gave her first exhibition flying show. Several thousand eager fans came to see the unusual show. She went on giving air shows all over the US. She gained national attention and thousands of fans of all races. She was not discouraged by words from her family or seeing the death of a student pilot. Nor did suffering a broken leg and arm in an air crash scare her.
Letters poured in from young black people. Like Bessie, they wanted to go into the field of aviation. Long before her first exhibition, Bessie dreamed of setting up a flying school for blacks. Unfortunately, she died in a flight accident before her dream was realized.

ort, and convenience. These cars will float along never touching the ground, and therefore will have no need for wheels. Annoying highway vibrations, caused by the rotations of the disc-and-tire wheels, will be things of the past. The coming highway passenger cars will literally fly above the road, supported on columns of air compressed by
turbine-driven fans.
The car without wheels has been called a “flying car” , and, in a sense, that’ s just what it is; however, it will not back out of the family garage, start down the street, and then suddenly go quickly upward heading for some distant point. On the contrary, to avoid problems in aerial navigation, the wheel-less vehicle probably will travel no more than three inches above road surface. It will travel over fairly rough road and even over smooth water.
The inevitable problems of maritime regulations, severe weather conditions, and running out of fuel in remote areas all will require new concepts of operation, servicing, and vehicle regulation.

A、will be replaced by airplanes
B、will have wheels unlike those of today
C、will u s e columns of air instead of wheels

Deer leave the high ground and come down from the mountains before a storm. If you see this, you can be sure that there will be a storm within two days. When you see large numbers of sea crabs on a sandy beach, it is time to leave. A change in air pressure over the water warns the crabs that a storm is coming. To escape the stormy sea pounding the shore, they leave the water and seek shelter on land.
Birds are especially good weather indicators because they also show the effect of a pressure drop in many ways. For example, some birds become easily annoyed and will fight over a piece of bread. Other birds sing just before a storm. It seems they know they won’t get another chance for an hour or two. Birds also seek shelter before a storm. You will sometimes see birds resting in trees or staying closely together on a wire near a building. This is a good storm signal.
Seabirds sit out a storm on land. Anytime you see seagulls sitting on the ground in large groups, reluctant to fly, it is not a very good day to go sailing. It is unusual to see large groups of birds flying overhead in the summertime. Watch for other weather signs if you see this. You should also stay alert if you see migrating birds flying in the wrong direction. These birds may be flying ahead of a storm. And if you can’t see a bird anywhere, look out! They may have flown to a different place because a violent storm is coming in their direction.

B.Sea crabs.
